Tour to The Pyramid Peaks and Mystical Lakes of ZelengoraDay one: After a two-hour drive through eastern RS’ canyons and forests we’ll pass into BiH’s oldest National Park. Not far from there we’ll venture up a mountain dirt road to the heart of the park – Zelengora. At Donje Bara we’ll park the jeep take a short walk and leave our packs at the newly rebuilt mountain hut at Donje Bare. The lake of Donje Bare is lined with thick forest to one side and open mountain meadows to the other. We’ll pass her on our way to Planinicu Peak at 1780 m. It’s no coincidence that we’ve chosen the Pyramid Peak as our destination. From here the highest peak of BiH tower above…Maglic at 2,386 meters, Volujak’s rockface barrier, and the 1200-meter deep canyon of the Sutjeska River. We’ll return via Gornje Bare to the hut to complete the fantastic four-hour hike. After a rest and a few drinks we’ll take a nice 20-minute walk to watch the sunset in amongst the Bosnia’s highest peaks. ![]() Zelengora and Maglic Mountain Day two: Day leads us once again towards Gornje Bare Lake but we’ll veer off from the previous days tour to Ugljesin Peak (1858 m.) where one of the best panoramic views of Zelengora peaks – Bregoc at 2,015 meters and Kozje Strane at 2,014 m. Below us sits quietly the serene waters of Gornje Bare’s Lake, which just recently shed from its long winter coat of ice. We’ll return via the same route…rest on her banks and head back to the hut to gather out things for the ride home. It’s an easier day than day 1 but still a hike of 3.5 hours. We’ll climb over 400 meters in total, perfect for a refreshing workout. Total hiking hours: |
